Maine Seashore
We love visiting Maine in the fall, after most of the crowds have left. For this trip we based in Freeport and road tripped up and down the coast. One of our first stops was Cape Neddick Lighthouse "Nubble Lighthouse"
After settling in, we went exploring and did a small walk up the Harpsell Cliff Trail. Most of the trail is wooded with a cute area for building Fairy Houses. At the top is a great view.
The next day we did a road trip to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. This lighthouse sits on a beautiful rocky shore. We spent a lot of time here just listening to the water and climbing on the rocks. When we arrived the fog was rolling in, which made everything look magical.
The following day, we visited Camden and the High Street Historic District. Lunch at the Camden Deli with the great views made for a perfect afternoon. The boats were amazing to look at. We visited the small shops, toy stores, and boutiques.
We took the next day to just explore around downtown Freeport and visit the shops. We drove to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, saw the estuary, and even saw some horseshoe crabs, which the kids loved.
The next day, we drove to Portland and grabbed some pizza at Portland Pie Company. Then we visited the Portland Head Light. We spent hours here looking at the historic mansion, the old artillery battery of Fort Williams, the children’s garden, and of course, the lighthouse.
I encourage you to explore Maine, especially all the small less known towns. We found some many fun places. Our children have enjoyed every trip and always request to return.
