Our Favorite Things: Baby

With the recent addition of baby Roberts, we have been inundated with all things baby. Because it has been quite a few years since we’ve had a baby in the house, we are starting over with baby items. We have always had a low-key approach to baby items; we choose durable and practical over trendy. While you can find dozens of suggestion lists on Pinterest, we found most of those filled with expensive, style over substance type items. So, here are our favorite items that we actually used:

Ikea Skubb - Keeping tiny baby clothes organized and quickly accessible for those unfortunate blow-outs is a big priority. I love these Ikea Skubb boxes because they are different sizes and can be stacked inside each other. Even as baby grows, these can be used for years for sock, tshirts, etc. Order them here.

Sleeping Gowns - Those midnight diaper changes are much easier when you don’t have to deal with zippers or snaps. Sleeping gowns with elastic at the bottom are my favorite item for newborns.

Car Seat Toy - We soon discovered that baby Roberts really hates being in the car seat. This is a new issue for us since our first 2 kids loved riding in the bar. A family member gave us a baby soother that was almost a miracle. We turn it on when we put the carseat in the car and keep using it until baby falls asleep.

Baby K-Tan carrier - Instead of a sling or wrap style carrier, I chose this soft cloth carrier. It works great for the first 6 months when baby is smaller and needs more snuggle time. It goes on quickly and feels secure. However, because they are sold by the size, you could need more than one. I would suggest buying the same size as your t-shirt size. K-Tan Carrier

Beco Gemini Baby Carrier - This baby carrier was probably one of the most useful things we bought. Because we do a lot of hiking, it was important that we had a great carrier. This one is very versatile going from newborn to 35lbs and can be used both front facing and back carry. The straps are adjustable so it can be worn by almost anyone and are padded for comfort, so mom and dad could trade back and forth easily.

Summer Infant Bathtub - While our kids have had many baths in the kitchen sink when they were younger, it is really hard to do with a newborn. This bathtub goes from newborn to toddler. The fabric sling works for tiny babies, while the tub works better for babies who are sitting on their own. If worked really well for the first 15 - 18 months.

Shea Moisture Baby Wash - OK so this baby wash isn’t life changing or magical, but it does smell amazing!

Britax Marathon - After using other convertible carseats, I found this one the easiest to install in multiple vehicles. The latch clips both tighten and adjust making it quick to install. The seat belt click tight feature makes using any car’s seat belt so easy and we never had any trouble getting it tight and secure.

Columbia Diaper Bag - We have used this versatile backpack for years from newborn to preschool. It is slightly smaller than a standard backpack so we still use it when we take day trips. It has an insulated pouch and stroller clips as well as smaller pockets.

We give many of these items as baby gifts to expecting parents. You might find that many of them are perfect to put on your baby registry.
